Profile

Hanaa Sfeir holds a Ph.D. in Contemporary Religious Studies from the Universit茅 de Sherbrooke, a doctorate in Pharmacy, and a Master鈥檚 degree in Philosophy from the Lebanese University. She teaches part-time at the Faculty of Theology and the Faculty of Human Sciences and Philosophy at 性爱学堂 in Ottawa. She is also a lecturer at the Universit茅 de Sherbrooke, where she is pursuing postdoctoral research. Her research focuses on the dialectic between unity and diversity, which she explores through philosophical, psychoanalytic, sociological, and theological approaches. She leads a wide range of projects that reflect the breadth of her interests: Islamophobia and cultural wars; resilience among youth placed in intermediate resources; the study of essential skills for fostering interprofessional collaboration in the fields of social services, education, and health; critical analysis of the Culture et citoyennet茅 qu茅b茅coises program; examination of Nicolas Berdiaeff鈥檚 personalist philosophy; francophone theology in Canada; the role of Catholic heritage in the collective imagination of Sherbrooke; cultural and religious cosmologies; the concept of the Trinity in philosophy and theology; the question of evil and suffering in counseling from both spiritual and psychoanalytic perspectives; issues of secularism and cultural diversity; as well as Quebec pilgrim studies.

She is a partner member of SoDRUS (Centre de recherche Soci茅t茅, Droit et Religions at the Universit茅 de Sherbrooke), a member of the Institute for Theological Study and Research in Interculturality, Migration and Mission (IERTIMM) in Quebec, a regular member of the Marie-Fitzbach Chair in Teaching Leadership in Pastoral and Social Ethics at Universit茅 Laval, a research member of the Quebec Network for Pilgrim Studies (RQ脡P), a member of the Famille Godin Research Chair on the placement of children and youth in intermediate resources at the Universit茅 de Sherbrooke, a postdoctoral research member of the Research and Intervention Group on Social Adaptation in Childhood (GRISE) at Universit茅 de Sherbrooke, and a member of the editorial board of Histoire Engag茅e. Since 2025, she has also collaborated with the intellectual organization Taqueen Al-Fikr Al-Araby, founded in Egypt, which works toward reforming religious discourse and promoting intercultural dialogue. In this capacity, she regularly publishes articles and monthly columns on contemporary philosophical, social, and religious issues, and actively participates in conferences organized by the network.
